CannagarZA started with a conversation. A friend mentioned that you simply could not get a decent cannagar mould in South Africa. The only ones around were expensive and had to be imported, and he reckoned that if there were a local option, there would definitely be people keen on it.
So we looked at what was already out there and decided to go the rapid prototyping route. We drew up a design and printed it. From there, with honest feedback from friends and early customers, the design kept evolving into what it is today.
We chose to stay with 3D printing on purpose. It means we carry no stock, we never pay for injection moulding or machined tooling, and we can keep improving the design whenever we find a better way. That keeps the price down and the quality up, and it is how we bring an affordable, locally made cannagar mould to the South African market.
Every mould is designed and printed to order, by hand, in Stellenbosch. No factory, no mass production. Just a tool built one at a time, for people who would rather slow down and make something well than reach for another quick roll.
We also share our designs for anyone who would rather print their own. You can find them on our Cults3D page.
From our living room to yours. Welcome to the craft.
Size Guide
Not sure which size to choose? Here is the full range at a glance. Diameter is the thickness of the cannagar, fill is roughly how much ground flower it takes, and burn time depends on how densely you pack it.
| Size | Diameter | Length | Fill | Burn time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8mm | 8mm | 80mm | 2-4g | 20-30 min | Your first cannagar, solo, slim and elegant |
| 9mm | 9mm | 80mm | 3-5g | 30-40 min | A step up, a little more presence |
| 10mm | 10mm | 80mm | 4-6g | 40-55 min | Our most popular all-rounder |
| 12mm | 12mm | 80mm | 5-8g | 55-75 min | Generous, made for sharing |
| 16mm | 16mm | 100mm | 12-18g | 90-120 min | The showpiece, for groups and occasions |
You do not have to make a full cannagar. Pack less and make a shorter one; you still get the even, slow burn that comes from compacting. The fill ranges above are for a full-length cannagar.
Formats
Single mould: forms one cannagar at a time. Four-pack: four cavities of the same size to form four at once, ideal for events or prepping ahead. Combo: 8, 10 and 12mm cavities in one mould, to explore different sizes.
What to wrap it in
You provide the wrap and your flower; everything else is in the mould. The 8mm and 9mm roll up in a standard king-size rolling paper with a normal filter tip. The 10mm and 12mm are a little thick for paper, so a hemp wrap or blunt wrap works best. The 16mm is a cigar: wrap it in a hemp wrap or a lightly moistened cannabis fan leaf, with a wooden or glass tip, or no filter at all. If your flower will not hold together, mist it lightly with water or work in a little kief or concentrate to bind it. Wraps and tips come from any tobacconist, headshop, or online.
